Missed joining us in residence in the fall? Returning to campus for the winter semester after a work term or study abroad? Join us in residence for the winter semester! 

Winter 2025 Update:  The application for Winter 2025 will open on October 1, 2024.

How to Apply

To apply for winter residence, you must complete the following steps:

  1. Read the Residence Contract
  2. Complete the online residence application in the Housing Portal
  3. Pay your $750 Residence Deposit in the Housing Portal

 

The application deadline for winter residence is November 15, 2024.  

A complete application includes both your online application AND your residence deposit.

For Winter 2025 entry, residence offers will be prioritized in the following order:

  • Students who were guaranteed residence in Fall 2024 and deferred their offer of admission to Winter 2025
  • International and out-of-province students starting their program in Winter 2025
  • Students who were on the residence waiting list in Fall 2024, in order of waiting list number
  • All other new applicants, in order of the date of completed residence application, with residence deposit

 

If you cancel your residence application PRIOR to receiving a room assignment, your deposit will be refunded in full.

Room assignments will be released in early December. We use the preferences indicated on your online application to assign you the best possible room, but we cannot guarantee you will be assigned your top choice.

Placements are based on available vacancies, and priority is established through a random lottery.

How do I apply and what is the deadline?

To apply for W25 residence, complete the Winter 2025 Application form on the Housing Portal.   The application opens on October 1, 2024.


Will you be assigning students to all residences?

Assignments will be based on where we currently have available vacancies.  Generally speaking, we are able to offer spaces in all residence communities.  You will have an opportunity to tell us your location preference on the Winter Residence Application.  Students who are on our Fall 2024 waiting list will be assigned first, and then all new Winter 2025 applicants will be assigned.  


I am already living in residence for the fall semester. Do I need to apply?

If you are currently living in residence for the Fall semester, you don’t need to submit an application for the Winter semester. Your original application was for both semesters. You’re set!


I am a Co-op or Study Abroad student. Do I have priority for residence? 

If you lived in residence during your last academic semester (in other words, last Winter semester), you’ll get a higher priority for being assigned a residence room (as long as you’ve sent in the completed form and deposit). Still no guarantee, but we will do our best.

If you do not live in residence during this Winter semester, you will lose priority for the following Fall residence application.

If you are overseas and are concerned your application and deposit will not arrive by the deadline, please contact our office at housing@uoguelph.ca

If you did not live in residence during your last academic semester, please send your application and deposit without delay so that we may place your name on the waiting list. You will be classified as an off-campus student reapplying for residence. The waiting list is set up on a first-come, first-served basis, so the earlier your application and deposit are received, the better.
