Fall 2022 & Winter 2023 Team Leader - Guest Registration and Door Staff

Job Type: Part-Time, 15-20 hrs/week (2 Positions Available)

Reports To:  Joanne Mead, Desk Services Manager

Department:  Student Housing Services – Desk Services

Description: Student Housing Services provides late night staffing at the main entrances of our residence buildings to facilitate Student Housing’s Guest protocols. The Team typically works Fridays and Saturdays from 10pm to 3am. In addition, their support is required during higher traffic times which includes but is not limited to: Orientation Week, Homecoming, Halloween and St. Patrick’s Day.

We are looking for University of Guelph students with management, leadership or mentoring experience to join our department and lead the Guest Registration and Door Staff Team. The ideal candidate would have strong Communication Skills, a good background in Customer Service, experience organizing tasks and working in a Team environment.

 

In the role of Team Leader, you will have the opportunity to

  • Develop your leadership skills to support future growth
  • Assist in the design, development and delivery of training
  • Provide direct input on the strategic development opportunities for the operation and its leaders

 

Job Duties:

  • Attending mandatory leadership training in early August
  • Assist in the recruitment process for the Guest Registration and Door Staff Team (30 to 35)
  • Assist in the development and delivery of the Team Training at the end of August
  • Assist the Manager in scheduling the 8 to 10 residence locations
  • Inventory management of all the Staff supplies prior to each shift/weekend
  • Updating electronic data from the Staff shift logs
  • Modeling professional work ethic; mentoring and coaching the Team; providing input on individual staff performance
  • Responsible for all the duties regular duties of the Guest Registration and Door Staff (Assisting in educating the residence students on Student Housing Services Guest Policy, verifying student and guest identification)
  • Working along with the Guest Registration and Door Staff Team on busy nights or when there are staff shortages
  • Working on the Residence Desks during staff shortages or high traffic times such as check-in and check-out.)
  • Completing mandatory on-line training
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • Ability to work late night shifts
  • Experience Organizing or Scheduling
  • Strong Communication – Verbal, Written
  • Experience in Management/Leadership/Mentorship Roles
  • Familiar with the University of Guelph Campus as well as the resources available to Students
  • Full G Driver’s License
  • University of Guelph Student
  • Canadian SIN
