What it means to be a Gryphon

The University of Guelph is a supportive and inclusive community that aspires to excellence in all that we do. We are committed to sustaining an environment that supports you in reaching your full academic and personal potential, inside and outside the classroom. Members of this community embody the following characteristics, which are at the centre of our identity as Gryphons:

 Authentic  Respectful  Engaged  Determined  Caring

Part of being caring and respectful Gryphons means we look out for one another and one way we do this is by being Active Bystanders. Being an Active Bystander means that when you encounter a fellow Gryphon in need, you step-up and doing something to help them.

During Orientation Week you will be introduced to our new Active Bystander initiative, which calls on all Gryphons to use one or more of the “5 D’s” when they see another Gryphon who may be in need. You will complete a pledge, promising to uphold the common values that make us all Gryphons.
