Applying as a Returning Student

Returning to Residence

Community. Convenience. Connection

Residence is the place to be no matter what year you are in!  We have spaces reserved for upper-year students.

How it works:

  • First priority goes to our “returning students” – those currently living in residence.
  • If you were in residence previously, but left the campus for a co-op work term or a Study Abroad semester, you will also qualify as a returning student.
  • If you have been living off-campus but would like to apply for residence, you are welcome to apply. However, priority will go to returning students.

When should I apply?

NOW!  The Returning Student Residence Application for Fall 2017 - Winter 2018 is now available online.  You can access the application at www.housing.uoguelph.ca/applyonline.

Once you complete the Residence Application for Fall 2017 - Winter 2018 you will also need to submit a $500 residence deposit. $100 is due at the time of the application and the remaining $400 is due by May 1.  Once we have received the first $100 installment of your residence deposit, we will complete your residence assignment.  For instructions on how to pay the residence deposit, see our website.

Upper year students can apply to live in either the East Village or West Residence communities.  If there are specific reasons why you would like to live in another residence, you may submit your request in writing by emailing our Residence Admissions staff at housing@uoguelph.ca.  After June 1, additional space will be assigned to upper year students according to availability.  Once we are full, a waiting list will be started according to the date the application was completed, and assignments will be made throughout the summer according to availability of space.

One Semester or Two?

When you apply, you are automatically entering a two-semester (F17 and W18) contract.  However, if you are graduating or going on exchange or a co-op work term in W18 you will be eligible for a one-semester contract and will receive a refund of your $500 residence deposit once we have confirmed your student status.  If you will not be returning for the W18 semester for one of these reasons, you will need to notify us in writing by the first Friday in November.
